Seekers who believe they must practice yoga only in the meditation room are under a great illusion. They must practice yoga in society as well. Practicing yoga in the meditation room is easy because there are no external disturbances. But one encounters many disturbances while practicing yoga in society, which makes it very difficult. The true yogi is one who can successfully protect his mental steadiness while in society.” ~Swami Kripalu

#1 Yoga Review Introduction

yoga review

I had no way of knowing just how drastically my life would change. There was just the epiphany that I needed to take control of the life I live and save myself from what felt like a never ending cycle of stagnation and poverty. I had the knowledge, but that was miniscule compared to the wisdom gained through experience and continuous practice, which resulted in enlightenment. The way yogic rituals and principles influenced my life is nothing short of expansive, indeed profound. That said, of those life- changing encounters, I chose those elements in particular that I am able to articulate and share, in hopes that someone will be able to take action in their lives and achieve prosperity and well- being. A state of abundance and a higher quality of life that every living being is entitled to.

Yoga is 99% practice and 1% theory.” ~ Sri Pattabhi Jois

Yoga’s Source

A spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which, including breath control, simple meditation also known as dhyana, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation. While yoga is promoted in the mainstream as the harbinger of physical health, this practice actually contributes to a vast well of spiritual, physical and mental fitness. The word “yoga” actually derives from the Sanskrit root word ‘Yuj’, meaning ‘to join’ or ‘to yoke’ or ‘to unite’. Yogic scriptures speak about the practice of yoga leading to the union of individual consciousness with that of the Universal Consciousness, indicating a perfect harmony between the mind and body, Man & Nature.

Before yoga became a mainstream form of exercise, it was chiefly used as a meditation practice. Consequently, it has been notorious for its yoga postures and poses, although this fact was not included within the original yoga traditions. Traditions which are deeply rooted in the fundamental disciplines of India, Africa, Eastern and many other provinces with rich spiritual ancestry . Fitness was not a primary goal. Yoga was used as an integral tool to expand spiritual consciousness, utilizing various breathing and mental focus techniques. The tradition began to gain popularity in the West at the end of the 19th century. An explosion of interest in postural yoga occurred in the 1920s and 1930s, first in India and later in the West.

Yoga Assist Physical Health

Being physically active during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is very important for your physical and mental health.” (NHS inform, 2021,Coronavirus (COVID-19): Physical activity)

Besides being a great form of physical well- being. I utilize asanas as a way to combat many physical ailments I experience. I have also noticed that my hand/eye coordination, as well as my reflexes have noticeably improved. The combination of asanas and pranayama are my go to for physical self- care as well. When combining these two yogic practices, this actually acts as a catalyst for physical healing as well. For simple physical ailments such as stomach aches and neck pains, to more pressing ailments, I can actively heal myself when practicing these rituals. Evidently, the symptoms of my menstrual cycle have been easier to manage with the assistance of yoga.

These symptoms include back, vaginal and stomach pains, nausea, dizzy and lightheadedness, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation. I can confidently say, not only have the level of these symptoms decreased but some have been eliminated. This has been wonderful in giving me back my power during the times I feel so impotent within my own body. With the ability to recognize and manage the sensations within my body , control is attainable. By practicing mindfulness and connecting with my breath, I no longer feel like a stranger in my body. What’s more, during these times I use yoga against covid-19. It’s a wonderful way to keep my overall health at its optimum, which is an evident priority during this pandemic.
